System Setup Guide

 
 
To confirm that your system is set up to access SkillPort properly click on this button.
The test that is performed will check that your computer and web browser are configured correctly to enable you to access the SkillSoft eLearning Content. After you run the test and receive the feedback, you can contact the SkillSoft Support Helpdesk at 866.754.5435 to obtain assistance in configuring your computer if needed. You can also use the results to contact your own internal technical support staff to indicate what you need help with.
 
 

System Requirements:

 

Hardware:

  • Minimum Pentium 166 MHz CPU required to support audio playback
  • Minimum 64 MB RAM (128 MB recommended)
  • Network connection to the web server via a web browser
  • End-user workstations must have a minimum video resolution of 800x600, with 16-bit color
  • Minimum 28.8 Kbps connection speed required for most products - For sites with e3 and Classic content, minimum 40 Kbps connection speed required - 56 Kbps or higher recommended for all products

  • 32-bit Microsoft Windows operating system: Windows 95/98, Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000, or Windows XP

  • Microsoft Internet Explorer, version 4.x or later  
  • Enable browser caching

    • Microsoft JVM is supported with Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.x and greater
    • Sun JVM/JRE version 1.1 is supported with Netscape version 4.06 through 4.8
    • Sun JVM/JRE version 1.3.1_02 - 1.4.2_03 is supported with Internet Explorer 5.5 and above and Netscape 6.2-7.1
    • JRE 1.3.1_08 is not supported with this release
    • JRE 1.4.2_02 and above is not supported on an SSL site

  • Pop-Up / Window Launch Blockers
    A browser enabled with a pop-up blocker (or similar window blocking tool) may interfere with the launch of SkillSoft courseware. If this occurs, SkillSoft recommends you set the blocking tool to "Always allow" for SkillSoft or for the site from which you access courseware. If this fails, SkillSoft recommends disabling the blocking tool during course play and re-enabling it after completing your play session.

Firewall
Addresses:

  • Check with your IT department to ensure that the following addresses are permitted through the firewall or proxy: 208.254.37.129 through 208.254.37.254 and 64.214.61.61
 

Browser Configuration:

Open Internet Explorer.

From the Tools menu, choose Internet Options.

Select the General tab from the new dialog box.

Select Settings button from the heading "Temporary Internet Files" portion of the dialog box.

A new dialog box will appear and under the heading "Check for newer versions of stored pages," enable the "Every visit to the page" setting.

Click the OK button. You will return to the Internet Options dialog box.

Now click on the Advanced tab.

In the Settings section, scroll down to the Microsoft VM section and select all three settings. Next, continue to scroll down to the Security  section and disable (clear the check box) Empty Temporary Internet Files Folder when browser is closed settings. Click the OK button.

 

Security Warning Dialog Box:

The first time you enter the site a Security Warning Dialog Box may appear as shown below.

The Security Warning dialog box may appear different depending on what version of the Windows operating system you are using. 

Select the Always Trust Box and then the Yes Button. Doing this will prevent the box appearing again.  

NOTE: If you select “NO” you will receive an error message and you must restart your web browser and login again.
